Dear friends and distant family,

For the last 10 days, I have been trying to decide what is the best way to tell you all that I finally won the scholarship I had been dreaming of all my life, I’m halfway down the road to making all my dreams come true! I’m happy, very happy and that I would not be where I am now if I hadn’t crossed paths with all of you, because all of you made me who I am today and I count you between my blessings every morning.

For those who don’t know me, I’m a 25 year old woman who’s making something really crazy. In the middle of my major in the Dominican Republic I decided to apply for a scholarship to Farmingdale State College in Long Island, New York to study Professional Communication, and I have been awarded with the scholarship. After hundreds of tears, frustrations with the public educational system, and my own inability to accept an average education, I have decided to risk it all and embark on a new adventure.

The scholarship includes:

• Tuition
• Unlimited meal plan
• Dorm
• Books
• Health Insurance
• Some extra money for laundry
  (Quite a good catch, huh?!)

Yes, it’s almost a full scholarship, if it wasn’t this way I would have not been able to go. Now, it is my responsibility to furnish my dorm and take care of  all my personal additional expenses (personal hygiene items, additional books, pocket money, warm winter clothes!).

People, I know times are hard, we haven’t had good times since 1901, but today I would like to ask for your support to help me cover some of the many expenses generated during this process. It doesn’t have to be a lot. Just 1 dollar can make a big difference in my life (I’m very worried about running out of deodorant :S)

I have set US$500.00 dollars as my goal, a goal I am still not quite sure I’m going to be able to achieve, but whatever you can contribute through this webpage, I will really, reall,y really appreciate it because I know that donation will come with a lot of love and positive energy.

A mis familiares y familia en la distancia

Queridas amistades, mi familia en la distancia,

Tengo 10 días tratando de decidir como voy a poner aquí, de la forma mas sensata y delicada, que si, que me he ganado la dichosa beca que tanto soñé, que tengo la mitad de mi sueño hecho realidad, y que estoy feliz. Muy feliz, y que no he llegado hasta donde estoy si no fuera por haber tenido la gracia de cruzarme en el camino de cada unx de ustedes, porque me han moldeado en la persona que soy el dia de hoy, y que les cuento entre mis bendiciones cada mañana.

Quienes no me conocen, soy una mujer de 25 años que está haciendo una locura. A mitad de mi carrera en la República Dominicana he decidido aplicar a una beca para Farmingdale State College en Long Island, Nueva York para estudiar Professional Communication, y la he conseguido. Despues de cientos de lágrimas, de frustraciones con el sistema de educación público y de mi propia incapacidad para conformarme con una educación regular, he decidido arriesgarlo todo y embarcarme en una nueva aventura.

Si, tengo casi todo, si no fuera así no lo lograría. Ahora, recae sobre mi responsabilidad amueblar mi dormitorio y cubrir con todos mis gastos personales, esto incluye aunque no se limita a una laptop nueva, ropa adecuada para el invierno, artículos de higiene personal, etc. 

Gente, yo se que ‘‘la cosa’’ no está buena, no ha estado buena desde 1901, pero hoy quiero solicitarles de su cooperación para yo poder cubrir algunos de los gastos que se me han generado en este proceso. No tiene que ser mucho, 39 pesos pueden ser: 2 empanadas, un refresco 20 onza, una recarga de celular, o un dólar para su querida amiga!, y ese dólar, uff puede servir para mucho!

He puesto una meta de US$500.00 que no se si alcanze (ustedes saben, la cosa ta dura), pero lo que puedan aportar ya sea via esta página o transferido antes del 19 de agosto a mi cuenta del Banco Popular 748551421  lo apreciaré muchisimo porque se que viene con sus buenos deseos.
